You Can Now Get Married Online with IKEA and a Webcam
Pis one thing, but it seems the affordable Swedish furniture retailer has a few more ideas up it sleeve. Yep, that’s right: IKEA will now marry you and your partner over the Internet, all you need is a computer with a webcam. The newly launched service lets couples hold a virtual wedding ceremony. IKEA provides a suitably romantic backdrop (complete with IKEA furniture, no doubt), so all you have to do is invite some guests into the Skype-style interface.
Using a webcam, guests will have then their heads transposed on to someone else’s body, so while you might you want to throw a collar on, this is one of the few weddings where you can get away with tracksuit bottoms. There’s a small caveat if you want the marriage to be legally binding. IKEA explains: Just one little technicality if you want your marriage to be legally binding, the bridal couple, the marriage officiator, and two witnesses need to be in the same room during the actual ceremony. It also appears that aspects of your dream online wedding may only be available in Swedish (like the promo video, below), though the itself is available in English.
Not having anyone to digitallyPbetroth, we’re not totally sure at this stage. Anyone fancy having a virtual marriage courtesy of IKEA? Let us know how it goes!
